If you follow me on twitter (@kevintmorales) you’ve probably muted me when I participate in the #ggfilmclub, which is a group of writers who watch a movie together (virtually) and live tweet our thoughts. It really illuminates things and is a great work out for my filmmaking muscles, but as you probably know, I am far more into long form, serial content, i.e. television series, anthology series, miniseries, limited series.
Which is why twice a month (on rotating days) I’m going to do a Pilot Club. I will pick a date, email anyone who wants to participate with the date, time and the script of the pilot which club members can choose to read before we screen the pilot or after (or not at all). Then after the live tweet, folks can come to this blog where there will be a post dedicated to the pilot we watched, and we can post longer thoughts and responses to the material and engage in educational discussion. How does that sound?
If you want to be a Club Member (it’s free lol) just drop me an email at kevintmorales at mac dotty com, and you’re in. The two nights will be a Thursday and a Saturday with 6pm Eastern start times. If you can’t make the livetweet, you can still come to the blog post after watching the episode at your convenience and join the discussion.
When possible we will also evaluate pilots of series that maybe didn’t really become successes. There’s a lot to learn when watching a script go to screen and somehow not make the jump successfully.
We will start in August with “Stranger Things” and “True Detective”. We will watch “Stranger Things” at 6pm eastern on Saturday August 6th. Please tell your writer/director friends, and subscribe to this blog and/or follow me on twitter for more info and join this journey with me.
